The figures were released as Iraqi officials were negotiating the surrender of about 300 people trapped inside a mosque in Fallujah.
It was not immediately clear whether those inside the mosque were civilians or insurgents or a mixture of the two, said Maj Gen Abdul Qader Mohammed Jassim, the commander of Iraqi forces in Fallujah.
Getting the HQ types out doing Infantry work is great because it will help unit cohesion going forward. Incidentally it will also mean that the poor hostile who gets inside the HQ compound is in for a world of hurt.
