Awaiting 'Martyrdom' Inside Fighters' Lair

testing this link, stand by Awaiting 'Martyrdom' Inside Fighters' Lair UPDATE: Someone tell me if this link works. It's from within the Early Bird, which requires login. UPDATE: It doesn't work. Here's the text. I'm reading embedded reports from local papers now. I'll make a list of the good stories and find their links outside the secure Early Bird. UPDATE3: Dropped the long text. Here's the non-secure link instead: In Hideout, Foreign Arabs Share Vision of 'Martyrdom' (washingtonpost.com) I'll publish the source and title of good article and you can post the links in the comments section -- will allow me to make at least three more posts. Distributed intelligence at work.

Ghaith Abdul-Ahad (G in Baghdad) is a stringer for Getty Images and good friend of Salam Pax.

Ghaith shot some amazing photos from Najaf in August and was nearly killed on Haifa street along with the Arabiya correspondent a few weeks ago.

It figures he's in Fallujah.

Did a quick check at Getty. Here are the images that it appears Ghaith shot while he writing this piece: Fallujah Insurgents Prepare For U.S. Offensive (If link doesn't work, go to Getty and enter title into search field)

This WaPo piece of Ghaith's is important because it identifies Zarqawi's sect as active in Fallujah, contrary to claims by the left, and even names the Tawhid and Jihad (al-Qaida in Iraq) member, Omar Hadid, who sits on the Fallujah mujahideen shura council.

Wasn't Hadid one of the four mentioned here earlier?

Chester, the Ghaith Abdul-Ahad WaPo piece and Getty photos reminded me of something I read over at Healing Iraq a few hours ago:

--->Majlis Shura Al-Mujahideen (The Mujahideen Advisory Council) are in control of Fallujah and they have distributed a statement inviting Arab and foreign (including American) media reporters to enter the town and cover the battles. The statement carried the insignia of Zarqawi's group Qa'idat Al-Jihad.<---

Don't know if any American journos took the majlis shura al-mujahideen up on its offer, but it's weird they'd invite journos in who only days before they would have beheaded.

G. and whoever else went in had better have gotten the hell out before the shooting started. G. might not be so lucky in Fallujah as he was on Haifa street.

BTW, damned good work Chester. Hope you don't mind all the commenting I've been doing.
